標題の言葉は、タンブラーの投稿者・berrystardustのブログで、Tシャツに印刷されていたものである。実に深い言葉だと思われる。
政治哲学者、戦争哲学者として知られる老子（Lao Tzu）の場合、その飛躍的な論理が目につくため、彼がgentleでkindな人だったことを“Lao Tzu”から読み取れるひとは少ないだろう。
だが私は何回も”Lao Tzu”を読んできて、彼がgentleでkindだったことを知っている。もう一回”Lao Tzu”を読み返すと、少なくとも7個の章が、それが解る記述を含んでいる。
特に、「武器をあげて敵と味方が相対するとき、哀しみの多いほうが勝つ（６９章）」と書いている。Gentleでkindでなくて、どうして哀しみを知ることができようか。
またLao Tzuは権力者の横暴に大変批判的で、現代で言えば北朝鮮の「宮廷」の華やかさ、支配される民衆の疲弊を鮮やかに描き出している。（５３章）
Lao Tzuは、彼の論理から、それと似ても似つかない無慈悲な民衆支配の論理を捏造した韓非とは違い、民衆に寄り添う立場で論理を展開した人だったと考える。

The words in the title were printed on a T-shirt on Berrystardust's blog (On Tumblr.). I think these are profound words.
Lao Tzu is known as a political philosopher and a philosopher of war. His logic with many leaps is noticeable, so few people could tell from "Lao Tzu" that he was a gentle and kind person.
But I have read Lao Tzu many times and know he was gentle and kind. If you read Lao Tzu carefully, at least seven chapters contain descriptions that make this clear.
In particular, he writes, ``When enemies and allies face each other with weapons raised, the one with the most sadness will win (chapter 69).'' How can you know sadness unless you are gentle and kind?
Lao Tzu is also highly critical of the tyranny of those in power, vividly depicting the splendor of the North Korean ``royal court'' in modern times and the exhaustion of the people under control. (Chapter 53)
I believe that Lao Tzu was a person who developed his logic from a standpoint that was close to the people, unlike Han Fei, who fabricated from Lao Tzu a merciless logic of popular rule that was never similar to Lao Tzu’s logic.
